MY PROJECT:
Building Confidence While Reading! My students not only love to read by themselves but they also enjoy listening to other people read. By having a listening center my students can build and improve upon their reading fluency, reading expression, and most of all build confidence in themselves.

I teach Second grade students in Indiana. This year I have chosen to teach the enrichment classroom in Second grade. Not only will I have 25 of the top students in Second grade but I will also need to create a whole new curriculum to help challenge these students to reach their greatest potential. I also will have two students with autism who will benefit greatly from this listening center.

We need need a wireless listening center with five wireless headphones and sets of listening library books to use during our 90 minutes Language Arts block. With this wireless listening center and grade appropriate non fiction book sets, my students will be able to improve on reading fluency, comprehension, and using expression in their voices. They will be able to become better writers by visiting different types of writing styles from different authors will use the listening center during our 90 min language arts block and incorporate the center in our Daily 5 lessons which include reading to self, reading to someone, listening, writing, and word work. The listening center will incorporate different types of learning styles into the curriculum. I hope that my students will be able to listen to their books on CD and then create their own stories and reports. Listening is a crucial part of growing up and become a better reader, writer, and citizen in the community.

Any donations towards this project will greatly help my students to become better readers and writers. The listening centers will help to add enrichment to my classroom. Reading the non fiction books will not only help build fluency and comprehension but it will also help boost my students' confidence level.
