MY PROJECT:
Children come into my class from all different walks of life with all different struggles and strengths. Teaching Special Education students, I have learned to truly value what technology brings to the classroom. An iPad would give my students another tool for success!

My students are a mix of general education, ESL, and special education students in a Title I school. Sometimes overwhelming, the variety of needs presents me with a rewarding challenge on a daily basis. The children in my school do not have opportunities that many other children have. Most children do not have regular access to a computer or the Internet. Many live in homes with three or four other families, hoping for a few moments of quiet. With their personal struggles, my students are brave, enthusiastic, warm, compassionate children who often look out for others before themselves. Their families will do anything to provide what they can for their children. I am proud to teach them and be a part of their lives. I have made it a goal of my own to enrich these children in any possible way I can, starting with making technology available to them as often as possible. Giving this to them has proven to be more successful than I could have imagined and I cannot wait to continue.

I am requesting an Apple iPad with a cover to use in my classroom for both student and teacher purposes. I want to give my students opportunities to have the world at their fingertips. Although my classroom has computers, they do not always work and are not as easily accessible to students as an iPad is. I plan on using this to reinforce, enrich, and motivate my students. I will use it in my teaching, conferring, and as a tool for instruction. I have found and used apps for my students on my personal iPhone, but would like an iPad so my students can have more freedom with the programs. My students will be able to research, discover, communicate, and create on this iPad. They will learn everything there is to learn! Reluctant readers can use this as an eReader. Struggling mathematicians can use apps so entertaining they won't know they are working on skills. Writers can find mentor texts and publish writing on here. There are endless possibilities of what this can do!

Donating to this will not just impact current students, but will be a tool for years to come. Infusing technology into my class has been my professional goal for the past few years, but unfortunately, with the lack of tools, this has become difficult. This donation will motivate, empower, and most of all, help to educate students with many different learning styles. I hope to see my students become more independent and confident with the use of this iPad. Thank you! Show Less
