A Special Thank You from Mrs. Nino
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank all of you for funding our project and giving my students the precious gift of reading! One thing I love of the tag reader books is that they are a smart transition to the use of technology in the classroom. They are similar to traditional books, so kids can use them with the tag readers or just as normal books. They are so colorful that they stand out in our class library. First grade is an important time to figure out the look and sound of words and with the help of the tag reader books my students can explore deeper what we learn in our literacy program. The books in this project are important to develop phonics, create phonemic awareness, and develop basic reading skills. With your donation you have allowed my first graders to give a big step in their journey to develop important reading skills. I want to thank Savings.com for their continuous support to my projects. I also want to recognize the important role oo.com has played during the past year supporting donorschoose projects and the continuous support of the Breadpig Community with their matching donations. I also want to thank my friends and family for their continuous support to my class projects and the dynamic team of Donorschoose working behind the scenes. Thank you again for helping my First Graders in their Quest for Tag Reader Books!!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Nino

My students need The LeapFrog Tag books to use with the Leapfrog Tag School Reader in order to decode words, spell, blend, and build vocabulary and reading comprehension.
MY PROJECT:
Reading is not only a precious gift but also a necessary skill. Practice is essential! But how to develop the love for reading without the needed support at home? What if the parents are just too... Show More

First of all, let me start out by saying thank you for your participation in 'Give & Get'. We have seen an amazing outpouring of support and participation. It is truly an honor to be a part of something so special.

It is our ambition to fund as many projects for public schools in need as we possibly can. Based on that ambition as well as large amount of feedback we have received, we have decided to revise our weighting formula. Projects are now weighted based their cost as well as the number of projects that the teacher has requested.

A teacher's first project listed on 'Give & Get' will not require any additional votes unless the project costs over $1,000.00. Any other project will require proportionally more votes based on the cost of the project and the number of projects that have been requested by the teacher.

Project Cost Projects Requested Votes Proportional Votes
A $600.00 1 100 100
B $2,000.00 1 100 50
C $600.00 2 100 25
D $600.00 3 100 12
E $2,000.00 3 100 6
F $3,000.00 3 100 3

In the example table, project A costs less than $1,000 and it is the first project that the teacher has requested. The votes for that project are not weighted. Project B costs over $1,000, but the teacher has not previously requested any projects. This project will be weighted based on its cost alone. Projects E and F both cost over $1,000 and the teachers have previously requested two other projects. Those projects will be weighted based on cost and the number of prior requested projects.

We are constantly striving to make 'Give & Get' better and more fair for everyone. As always, please continue to send us your thoughts/feedback and we can continue to improve.

LATEST UPDATE (06/08/2012):
Weighting now takes into consideration all active requested projects and requires proportionally more votes for previously funded projects.
