Dude you're confusing Hell's Kitchen the TV show with a real restaurant. Hells Kitchen the TV show is taped on a tv set and people are paid $50 to eat there. Check it out for yourself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell's_Kitchen_(US_TV_series)

The show was taped in Los Angeles at KCOP, in a converted former television broadcast facility that previously hosted shows such as The Joker's Wild and Tic-Tac-Dough in the late '70s to the mid '80s.

If you read the comments here as I did when I researched the article you'll have a better understanding.

Hello, I just wanted to address this statement: "Hell’s Kitchen is a game show that takes place in a fictional restaurant with fictional customers..." My friend accually went to Hell's Kitchen while on vacation, and had a great meal at the cost of $850 for his table of four. So..... that statement is not true.

Hi,
Ive been following Gordon and Hells kitchen here in Denmark, thinking that this man, might be able to teach some new thing I didnt know, but so far im still very dissapointed.
Besides that, Seeing him shouting at the customers, makes me embaressed to say that Im a chef.

I will admit that I watch both, and also Top Chef. Top Chef is by far my favorite. Those are talented chefs. The people on Hell's Kitchen had a hard time coming up with a dish from leftovers. I like the Next Food Network Star, but I still find Top Chef to have the best food and I think it's the most entertaining! I usually turn off Hell's Kitchen half way through because I can't handle all of the yelling and wining.
